Rescue Spotlight: Joseph’s Legacy

Compassion is a spark that ignites contagious action. Dog rescuers live by this every day and it was no different when Joseph was brought into Meg Melampy’s life. Joseph was in need and quickly a community grew around him to help, but the best part of this story is that it doesn’t stop with Joseph. As a new organization, Joseph’s Legacy is taking action for other dogs in their area since Josephs rescue in September. Read more about Joseph’s Legacy below.

BestBullySticks.com recently had the great honor to donate $2,000 to Joseph’s Legacy during our ThanksGiveaway 2013 Charity Photo Contest.

When & Why did you start?

We started our Facebook mission (Justice for Joseph) on September 28, 2013 when Joseph was first rescued. It started out of the love to share his story and to let the world know that we are tired of weak animal abuse laws.  We immediately saw the need to help many abused animals and work on the laws. Then, Joseph’s Legacy was born. We started helping saving lives, generating donations not only for ourselves, but for other organizations. Our supporters are always wiling to help.

What’s different about your rescue?

Joseph’s Legacy strives to regain hope and respect for all animals. We educate the public of the reality of animal welfare and lack of awareness.  We team with rescues and shelters to save lives.  We try to help on many different areas of animal welfare from changing laws, saving lives, education, & advocacy. read more…

Rescue Spotlight: Paws for Seniors

In a recent PetFinder study, “less-adoptable” pets stay in animal shelter four times as long as other pets. Sadly, 24% Animal Rescues say senior pets are the number one looked over animal in shelters. (source) BestBullySticks knows that many people are missing out on great companions, but there is one rescue in Virginia making a difference in the lives of senior pets—Paws for Seniors.

We recently spoke to Brenda Scamoredella, co-founder of Paws for Seniors about how this great rescue got it’s start and stories of some very inspiring dogs.

When & Why did you start?

Paws For Seniors formed in the fall of 2011 following the collapse of a rescue group in the area that the founders were fostering 3 senior dogs for. Daiquiri, Artie and Princess were transferred to the care of Paws For Seniors. In January 2012, Paws For Seniors was incorporated in the state of Virginia as a non-profit organization focused on caring for and finding homes for senior dogs and cats, aged seven years and older where they can live out their golden years with dignity and love through rescue, foster, adoption, and hospice.

Like Daiquiri, who after 19 years of dedication and love to her family, Senior Dogs and Cats become homeless every day for any number of reasons; we knew we had to help by bringing awareness that Senior Pets are not to be overlooked! They deserve a chance to thrive and prove that they can live as active, loving, dedicated family members. Every day we work to give Senior Pets a chance to LIVE out their GOLDEN years with dignity and love. read more…

Weekly Drool Recipe: Healthy Protein-Packed Dog Pizza Treats via Aleksandra Ninova

At Best Bully Sticks we have some pretty amazing customers—who care about their dogs through and through. From tip of the nose to tip of the tail, our customer will go great lengths to get their dog the best and healthiest options for a full and happy canine life. Aleksandra Ninova is no different. She even took some of our safe and healthy treats and made her protein-packed dog treats! We thought we’d share her story and recipe with you so you can recreate this healthy and tasty treat for your pup!

As a new doggie mom, I want the best for my little boy Bruno. I spend a bunch of time researching the best dog food, best feeding techniques (such as rotational feeding – switching food brands every few months), as well as healthiest, natural dog treats. I also love cooking, so I decided to cook up some treats for my little guy. When researching recipes, I saw that just about all (basically all) of them have a lot of flour as an ingredient. Granted, the flour is usually whole wheat, or brown rice, but I was determined to find a way to minimize the amount of flour and starch in my dog treats as dogs do not NEED too much of it (if any at all). So thus I looked around my supplies to see what I could substitute flour for. read more…
