If your household is anything like ours, you feed your dog his or her dog food twice daily, supplemented with a bully stick every two or three days and sometimes a little raw fruit or veg. But for a special treat, we like to make a homemade DIY dog treat.

We came across this fun recipe for Carrot Oat Applesauce Treats on Baking Mischief. Tracy, baker and writer, has a black lab named Ella who also got to try our bully sticks!

Four legged friends dogs AND horses can enjoy this DIY dog treat. Tracy also tried feeding them to her cats but those felines can be pretty finicky sometimes!

We at Best Bully Sticks love DIY Dog Treat recipes because you know everything that goes into what you are feeding your dog. Some dog treats (not including ours!) can include a laundry list of ingredients, some with unpronounceable words. Healthy treats like this have as little as four, two of which are a fruit or vegetable. To add to the fun, you can make these treats in a heart shape or cookie cutter of your choice.

Why are these DIY dog treats both nutritious and delicious? For starters, they contain both fruit and vegetables. Apple is a good source of fiber and Vitamins C and A. Carrots are also fiber-licious and are a natural source of nutrients, including but not limited to Vitamins A, K, B, potassium, and biotin. We are heading into apple season too!

Bone Appetit!
