BBS Weekly Drool Recipe w/ Spoon Fork Bacon: Doggy Fro-Yo

This week’s Drool Recipe comes from our new friends Teri & Jenny over at Spoon Fork Bacon! We’d like to thank them for this exclusive recipe and their beautiful photography. Just look at that food styling! This is one that you and your pup will equally appreciate! Thanks again ladies!

Hi All! When the lovely folks over at bestbullysticks.com invited us to do a guest post, providing one of our homemade pet treat recipes we eagerly said, “Yes!” Pets are incredibly important to both of us and hold a very special place in our hearts. We both have pets (Teri has two cats and Jenny has a little min-pin mix) and can acknowledge as well as appreciate the endless loyalty and unconditional love we get from our furry little friends. Since we’re coming up on everyone’s favorite season, fro-yo season this is, we thought that our little babies need some fro-yo love too! We’ve created a quick an easy fro-yo treat without weird additives and preservatives. This treat is all natural and made with Greek yogurt, peanut butter, a banana, and a touch of honey! Before you begin fretting about the use of dairy and your pets sensitive little bellies, here’s a fun little fact: All natural Greek yogurt is actually good for your dogs! The natural live cultures in the yogurt actually help flush all the bad bacteria out of your pooch and help maintain the good ones!…neat right?! I thought so! Anyway, if you’re as crazy about your pets as we are then we urge you to make them this super, simple and tasty treat. They totally deserve it, don’t they?! Oh and if you want more pet treat action, come check out our recipe for “Bacon Bark Sticks”…my little Dexter thinks they’re awesome!

Doggy Fro-Yo
Makes 12 (2 ounce) treats

Ingredients
2 cups of low fat, all natural Greek yogurt (no sugar, no additives)
1 medium banana
1/3 cup all natural, organic peanut butter
1 tablespoon honey

 1. Place all ingredients into a food processor and process until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes.
2. Pour mixture into (silicon or paper) molds of your choice, place on a baking sheet and freeze, at least 1 hour.
3. Remove fro-yo pops from molds and serve.

From everyone at Best Bully Sticks & Spoon Fork Bacon: Bone Appetit!

Weekly Drool Recipe: Beef-Glazed Green Bean Treats

“Psst! Hey, you want some?” We dog lovers have all spoken these words and treated our pups to a little treat here and there. Would we be loving puppy parents if we didn’t? However, Best Bully Sticks knows that not all snacking is good snacking! That sole reason is why our company is dedicated to all-natural dog treats. But even then, doggy mom’s and dad’s take “treating” your dog too far. In fact, 23% to 41% of dogs are overweight with about 5.1% being obese. If your vet tells you to stop feeding any excess food to your dog in an emergency effort to help loose weight, you should absolutely do so. However, if your dog is just a little pudgy and needs to loose a few pounds, we suggest baking up a quick batch of these treats for your pup!

Beef-Glazed Green Bean Treats are loaded with nutritious things your dog needs. They don’t help your dog loose weight, but they do give a great, healthy alternative that will help Fido feel spoiled while not adding on extra pounds.

Ingredients
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, low or fat free

3 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour

1/2 cup green beans, mashed (see note below)

1 cup beef broth, reduced sodium, plus 1/4 cup for glaze

1/4 cup milk, low or fat free

1 tbsp olive oil read more…

However, Best Bully Sticks wants to hang on to those last few ground root veggies that are fixing to pass out of season! Lettuce, potatoes, radishes, onions and best of all: carrots! Carrots are a wonderful source of vitamins and minerals not only for you, but for your dog. Carrots are chock-full of beta-carotene, which is transferred into Vitamin A once consumed. Weekly Drool Recipe: Homemade Frozen Pupsicle Treats

It’s May and that means warmer temperatures and the need to cool down! Best Bully Sticks wants to share with you doggy owners out there a great and tasty way to not only cool down your dog, but treat him as well. This week we’re making Homemade Frozen Pupsicle Treats! We’re going to give you 2 recipe variants as well as 2 different takes on the creating the pupsicle form! Enjoy!

Apple Honey Pupsicles

Ingredients
2 containers (6 oz. each) plain yogurt
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1/3 cup regular applesauce (or a 4 oz. snack size portion)

Directions
Stir together all ingredients in a mixing bowl with a spoon until well combined.

Peanut Butter Banana Pupsicles

Ingredients
32 oz. plain yogurt
1 mashed ripe banana
2 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons honey

Directions
Mix ingredients in a mixer or blender.

Pupsicle Formation & MORE variations!

These treats are the most versatile treats out there because you can do so much with them! The neatest ways we’ve seen to form the pusicles are:

1. In an ice-cube tray or egg carton! Pour your frozen treat mixture directly into your unused ice-cube tray or egg carton. This will allow you to take these frozen bits out for your pup as you please! This is especially great for small dogs! Pretty ingenious, huh?

2. In plastic cups! Pouring your mixture into plastic cups about half-way will provide the same ease of serving, but will be better for a bigger dog!

Loosening the frozen treats from the tray/carton/cup is easy. Just pour a little warm water over the bottom of the container!

At this point, you’re free to experiment! These treats are so versatile! For instance, you can substitute an large jar of baby food for the banana in the Peanut Butter Banana Pupsicle recipe. A large jar of baby food is the same volume as a banana, so you can sub any flavor that your dog likes. Broth, fruit puree and different flavored yogurts are great subs!

Weekly Drool Recipe: Chock Full Of Cheese Cookies!

Best Bully Sticks says, “Pass The Cheese, Please!” with these yummy, sure-to-please cheese cookies for your dog. We like to call them Chock Full Of Cheese Cookies, and they really are just that. These treats have parmesan and cheddar cheese baked into a cookie. There’s even a cream cheese and peanut butter filling for the inside if that’s not enough!

Cheese is loaded with protein and calcium, both of which are great for your dog. However, cheese can also be very rich. We recommend giving these to a very active dog or limiting the intake of these treats. Also, if your dog has trouble processing dairy, you can substitute cheese ingredients with almond, soy or tofu cheese. Best Bully Sticks hopes your pooch enjoys these hearty snacks!

Cookie Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups cheddar cheese, grated
2/3 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
