As a winner of a Best Bully Sticks one-day rescue contest, It’s A Pittie in Peotone, Illinois had a slew of nominations from devoted fans. This all-volunteer, all-foster shelter is all about giving Pit Bulls in Illinois a new “leash” on life.

“It’s A Pittie Rescue brings years of volunteer experience to the world of rescue. We take in abused, neglected, and unwanted bully breeds of all ages.”

Once the dogs are taken in, they receive medical care and It’s A Pittie starts looking for these dog’s forever homes.

“Our dogs are placed into loving, caring foster homes until they are adopted by their responsible new owners. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, micro-chipped, and showered with the love they so deserve.”

One of efforts of It’s A Pittie is education. They published a wonderful brochure full of facts that dispels myths associated with this great breed. The brochure can be viewed here.

One of the beautiful yet heart-wrenching stories of It’s A Pittie, is Ace, (seen at the left) the extremely mal-nourished pittie who hadn’t eaten in three weeks. Being over a year old, he should have weighed 50 to 60 pounds, but only weighed 21.  Through this rescue’s great volunteer network, Ace has made a lot of progress, but still has a lot of healing to do.
