When you love a dog, you’ll do anything for them. Now add hundreds more dogs stretched over many states. Nothing changes does it? That’s what the wonderful folks at Adopt A Boxer Rescue have tapped into. Their volunteers have a great passion for rescuing Boxers; they love them and will do anything for them. Read BestBullySticks.com’s Rescue Spotlight on Adopt A Boxer Rescue below to hear of AABR successes, needs and see some amazing before and after photos.

When & Why did you start?
Boxer lovers Dawn Karam, Jamie Meadow, and Sandy Trehy founded Adopt a Boxer Rescue in November 2004 after working for many years with other rescues, in order to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home unwanted and abandoned boxer dogs within the northeast United States.

What’s different about your rescue?
Adopt a Boxer Rescue is an all-volunteer rescue doing both hands-on rescue and education. Our volunteers and homes step up to help dogs no matter what medical issues or age. While AABR finds homes for many healthy, young dogs, we also are committed to being there for dogs like Rocky , Bobbi , Camacho, and the seniors who need someone to go the extra mile for them.

What is the greatest success story or “win” that your rescue has had?
In May 2012 the Philly shelter called to ask for our help with an emaciated puppy who had been found as a stray. At six months old, Tilly (formerly Nana) didn’t even weigh seven pounds, and the vet said that it was a miracle she was still alive. Her story spread far and wide, and once she was healthy enough she was adopted into a loving home with a puggle sister. Tilly is now a healthy 36 pounds and has her own Facebook page.

What’s the most rewarding thing about working at your rescue?
There is nothing in this world like see a dog transform from a frightened, trembling creature into a healthy, happy member of a family. It’s especially rewarding when a senior or a dog with special needs finds a forever home.

What can people do to help your rescue?
First, they can spread the word: tell your friends to “Adopt, don’t shop!” and visit www.adoptaboxerrescue.com to see amazing Boxers looking for homes. Second, we are ALWAYS raising money so that we can save dogs like Camacho and Tilly. We welcome tax-deductible donations, but also offer ways to buy things you might buy anyway from companies that donate a portion of the proceeds to our dogs.

Thank you to Adopt A Boxer Rescue for all the hard but wonderful work they do. Visit Adopt A Boxer Rescue online or on Facebook.
