Weekly Drool Recipe: Bully Flake Ice Cube Dog Treats

BFlake Ice Cubes 8.14.14

Temperatures are still high during the month of August, especially where we are in Virginia! To help dogs endure the summer heat, we created an icy concoction and visited the lovable mutts at Richmond Animal Care & Control to treat them on National Mutt Day!

Another dog holiday, DOGust 1st, happened the following day, so it was the perfect time to give some snacks and attention to these dogs waiting for their forever homes. Dogs love icy treats, so we combined a new product that’s easy to use with ice for a treat that these rescue dogs loved!

We recently introduced to our product line Bully Flakes: soft, highly-digestible bully stick flakes that are a great food enhancer. If your dog has sensitive teeth and is unable to chew bully sticks, Bully Flakes have the great taste of bully sticks in a different form! Bully Flakes can be sprinkled on your dog’s food daily, especially if they are picky eaters or lacking appetite.

A member of our Customer Service team brought home Bully Flakes to try in ice cubes with her pibble, and they were a hit! How much Bully Flakes you put in the ice cube is up to you- you can sprinkle a pinch or measure out a teaspoon.

Step by Step instructions for Bully Flake Ice Cube Dog Treats

1.  Using clean ice cube trays*, sprinkle or spoon out bully flakes into the individual cubes.

2. Add cold or room temperature water, filling to the top of the cube.

3. Freeze for 1 hour or more to achieve a frozen solid ice cube dog treat.

4. Feed your dog a few Bully Flake Ice Cube Treats as a way to cool down on a hot day or a reward for just being a great dog! We are sure he will enjoy it.

*If you reuse the tray, be sure to only use it for pet treats; it should not be used for human consumption.

There you have it! An easy, two-ingredient frozen dog treat perfect for hot weather.

Rocco especially loved our Bully Flake treats. He gobbled up four of them!

Dogs do the Funniest Things: Bread Snatcher and Bathroom Hide-and-Seek

Back in May BBS held a Facebook Essay Contest to find out which of your dogs is the funniest!

Here are our 2nd & 3rd Place Winners’ essays on Scout & Bella. They each won Packs of Bully Sticks chews for their funny stories!

Enjoy reading!

scout Funniest Things contest Best Bully Sticks

Land Shark!

We took our mixed breed dog Scout to the lake for a swim. He had been having some back problems and ‘his chiropractor’ said swimming was good exercise for him.
Scout was enjoying doggie paddling around the small, neighborhood lake, when a little girl and her mother showed up to feed the ducks.
Each time the child threw a piece of bread into the water, to feed the momma duck and her babies, Scout got to the bread first. She threw another piece of bread – yup – Scout got to it first. This happened many times…
It was so funny – Scout was like a crocodile – all you could see was his eyes, and then his jaws – as he opened them to snatch the bread.
For a short while, all the little girl and her momma could do was watch their bread chunks disappear.
Wanting the ducks to have some fun, and to keep the family happy, we called Scout out and went home.

Bella Funniest Things contest Best Bully Sticks

Bella is my 8 year old Old English Sheepdog. She is a ham who loves attention! One day, I was sitting in the living room watching television when I heard the bathroom door slam and then scratching at the door. I got up to see what was going on and I found Bella had locked herself in the bathroom. I let her out and told her she was a silly dog. A little while later, I heard the door slam and the scratching again. I got up to let her out and told her to be more careful! I little while later, I saw her get up and wander in the direction of the bathroom. I hid and peeked around the doorway and watched her enter the bathroom, turn around, lift her paw and carefully close the door!! The scratching began…I laughed my head off, realizing she was doing this on purpose to divert my attention from the television to her! Needless to say, I now keep the door to the bathroom closed, but if I forget, she will still lock herself in and play the “Let me out!” game.

Dogs Do the Funniest Things Essay Contest Winner: Jordan

In May, Best Sticks held an Essay Contest asking our fans to submit stories of their funny dogs. Dogs are, after all, are a great source of fun and laughter in our lives!

The winning entry from Brittany C. about their Pitbull named Jordan is below. He’s quite the character, as you will see!

Jordan in the back seat Funniest Things essay contest Best Bully Sticks

Jordan

“We knew right away Jordan was meant to be ours. Named after Michael Jordan for his superb jumping skills, our rescued pitbull came bursting into our lives full of energy and love. He was our foster pup for a whole 5 minutes before we wanted to make it official, mainly because of his hilarious personality. God certainly has a sense of humor, and he brought us Jordan as a reminder to lighten up a bit!

I wish I could pinpoint just one instance where Jordan has brought us tears of joy and laughter, but really he is a clown all the time. Everything he does is inappropriate, awkward, or absurd. A svelte 70 lbs of solid muscle, this “vicious” pup has literally dragged mom through any obstacle, including bushes, to avoid getting wet in the rain. We have told him repeatedly he is not made of sugar, but I suppose he didn’t buy it. Jordan jumped out of our second-story window when mom dared to leave him for 5 minutes alone in the house. (Luckily he was not hurt, especially lucky since it was the day after he was neutered.) Given the choice of any seat in mom’s car, he chooses to squeeze his 70 lb body into the small wedge of space below the rear car window.

Jordan literally ate 50% of mom’s diploma, especially embarrassing since she had to bring it into the bank to qualify for a home loan a few days later. When people are eating, he slowly army crawls towards any piece of food, hoping he is so stealthy you won’t see him sneak up. He howls in his sleep and takes up 80% of any bed he shares. He has expensive taste, using only the finest of Direct TV remotes as chew toys because let’s face it, they’re much more tasty than Comcast remotes. He has chewed through 4 metal crates, pooped on a laptop, eaten DVDs and sponges, peed the bed, ate part of the carpet and banister, chewed through the door, and sat on his much smaller sister when they play.

I have repeatedly been asked why we keep this dog after all the things he has destroyed. Jordan is our reminder that memories are more valuable than “things,” that love is more precious than possessions, and laughter is truly the key to a life well lived. We think our dog is bonkers and hysterical. He may have taken the long route to get to us, but we know he was truly meant to be our jester.”

Sleeping in the back seat

Rest assured, this mischievous boy (and mom and dad) got some treats for his troubles!

Thank you, Brittany, for sharing this great essay on your funny and lovable Jordan! It certainly made us smile :).
