Drum roll please…. Introducing Fizzion Pet Stain and Odor Remover.

F_bottleWe all know what it likes when your four legged prince or princess makes a royal mess. We are excited to bring to you a new “earth” friendly cleaner that is great for not only spills, but for those not so pleasant pet related stains.

Developed as a heavyweight commercial cleaner, FiZZiON’s powerful CO2 action unlocks and cleans stains and odors on contact. Other cleaners add harsh chemicals or foreign bacteria to clean. Not FiZZiON. Its unique formula uses non-toxic ingredients and kills odor-causing bacteria naturally by breaking down and destroying their cell walls

Designed with the Earth in mind, Fizzion is SAFE, green, clean, and earthly-friendly for you, your family, and your pets. Their breakthrough eco-friendly formula was designed with great care to keep our earth healthy.

Despite being one of the greenest cleaners you can buy, Fizzion still outperforms most of the cleaners on the market due to the stain fighting power of CO2. All you have to do is fill the bottle with warm tap water and add one of the Fizzion tablets. Then, you are ready to go.

Reasons why Fizzion is different than other cleaners…

* Concentrated formula mixes up fresh for maximum cleaning power
* Safely unlocks and lifts away new or set-in stains
* Kills bacteria to completely eliminate household odors
* Eco-friendly packaging minimizes waste and pollution
* Releases a fresh linen scent as you clean

This comes with a reusable spray bottle and 2 Fuzzion tablets.

Chew-monial : Virtual Hugs & Fish Stix Licks From Our Furry Friends at Husky Camp Rescue

We here at Best Bully Sticks are always excited to get chew-monials from tail wagging fans & customers. So, if you can image we leaped for joy when we received a virtual hug in the form of a letter from our friends at Husky Camp, a Siberian Husky Rescue. They were one of our five winners for of our last months Best Bully Sticks $3000 Fish Stix Favorite Dog Rescue Giveaway as a way to reward deserving rescues, shelters and their dogs. So, we want to send a heartfelt thanks to ever one you nominated & voted for their favorite shelter. Paws up to you & all the rescues and shelters who make a difference each day in the lives of deserving animals. Don’t forget to support your local animal shelter & rescue and open up your heart & home to a pet in need of adoption.

Dear Best Bully Sticks-

We wanted to thank you for your generous donation of Fish Sticks to our Siberian Husky Rescue. It was an honor to see the support that we must have for our rescue and we thank all of our loyal supporters. As you can see from the attached photos, they were well received and enjoyed by everyone! Before we even opened the box, it became a chew toy… so we knew they’d love them, and we were right.. they’re a big hit around here!

ROO1I also included a photo of one of our foster dogs who is recovering from hip and leg surgery. “Big Roo” as we call him (he hops around on one back leg) is a young Malamute who was presumably hit by a car and then picked up by an animal shelter that didn’t do anything to fix him. When we got a hold of him he was in a lot of pain and needed major surgery and pins in his hip to save his broken leg. He is only 9 months old and has a lot of energy, so recovery has been tough. He has to be confined so that the other dogs don’t play with him or get up and try to do too much. He has “crate fever” and gets a little crazy.

We have found that we can toss him a Bully Stick from Best Bully Sticks and it calms him down and takes out some of his anxiety and allows him to get his much needed rest. The more we can keep him resting, the faster he can recover and the Bully Sticks have been a tremendous help in that. Thank you again for your support of rescue, it means a lot to us.

Sincerely,

Kevin Marlin

Hiking with Fido-Trail Etiquette: 101 Dog Care Tips- Tip 27

doghikingHiking the wilderness trails with your dog is a fun & healthy way to promote the bonding experience. Remember safety first! With a few trail etiquette do’s & don’ts tips you and your hiking buddy will be on the trails and exploring the great outdoors in no time.

DO’s:

1. Keep your dog on a tight leash so he or she does not wander into trouble. Hiking in the great outdoors is exhilarating but full of potential hazards for your dog, including rattlesnake bites and falls.

2. Be a responsible dog owner & always pick up after your dog on the trails.

3. Keep a watch on your dog at all time while he or she is exploring the trails since dogs have a tendency to chase after critters.

4. Be polite! Make room for other hikers on the trails. Pull your dog to side when passing walkers and hikers without dogs.

5. Respect the trail rules! Some hiking trails allow you to let your dog off leash while others require you to keep them on a six foot leash.

6. Hike with your dog only on trails that are clearly well-marked and well-graded; avoid hiking on unmarked, over grown & poorly-maintained trails which can signal danger ahead.

7. Pack enough food and water to sustain both you and your dog for the duration of your hike. A strenuous or lengthy hike can quickly deplete and dehydrate  you and your dog.

8. Bring a basic first aid kit with you when out hiking with your dog for those just in case moments. It is so easy for your rambunctious & excited hiking dog to get bite or cut on the hike.

DON’TS:

1. Don’t let your dog wander off from the pack and destroy vegetation or disturb the wildlife.
2. Don’t be a push over on the trail. The trail is for everyone to enjoy so allow plenty of room for passerbyer’s.
3. Don’t let your dog approach other dogs on the trail with an owners permissions. Safety first. As much as you want your pup to have fun, roam around, and meet & sniff nice people on the trail.  Keep in mind that some people  and dogs hiking may not want your dog greeting, jumping & sniffing them. Save that for the dog park or a future playdate.

Best Bully Sticks Spotlight on a Breed: Congrats to Lulu the Boston Terrier!

To cute for words! Adorable lulu enjoying our bully sticks.

To cute for words! Adorable Boston Terrier lulu enjoying our bully sticks.

Height: between 38-43cms (stands 15-17 inches at the withers)

Weight: Weight is divided by classes as follows: Under 15 pounds; 15 pounds and under 20 pounds; 20 pounds and not to exceed 25 pounds.

Coat: The coat is short, smooth, bright and fine in texture.

Color: The Boston Terrier is characteristically marked with white in proportion to either black, brindle, seal, or a combination of the three. Seal is a color specifically used to describe Boston Terriers and is defined as a black color with red highlights when viewed in the sun or bright light.

Appearance:

The Boston Terrier is a lively, highly intelligent, smooth coated, short-headed, compactly built, short-tailed, well balanced dog, brindle, seal or black in color and evenly marked with white. The head is in proportion to the size of the dog and the expression indicates a high degree of intelligence.

Boston Terriers are typically small, compactly built, well proportioned dogs with erect ears, short tails, and a short muzzle. The body is rather short and well knit, the limbs strong and neatly turned, the tail is short and no feature is so prominent that the dog appears badly proportioned. The dog conveys an impression of determination, strength and activity, with style of a high order; carriage easy and graceful. A proportionate combination of “Color and White Markings” is a particularly distinctive feature of a representative specimen.

Temperament:

Boston Terriers have strong, friendly personalities. Bostons can range in temperaments from those that are eager to please their master to those that are more stubborn. Both can be easily trained given a patient and assertive owner. The modern Boston Terrier can be gentle, alert, expressive, and well-mannered.  They were originally a cross-breed between the Old English Bulldog and the English White Terrier.

Some Bostons enjoy having another one for companionship. Both females and males generally bark only when necessary. Having been bred as a companion dog, they enjoy being around people, and, if properly socialized, get along well with children, the elderly, other canines, and non-canine pets. Some Boston Terriers are very cuddly, while others are more independent.

Health: The life expectancy of the Boston Terrier is 13-15 years. Several health issues are of concern in the Boston Terrier: cataracts (both juvenile and adult type), cherry eye, luxating patellas, deafness, heart murmur, and allergies. Curvature of the back, called roaching, might be caused by patella problems with the rear legs, which in turn causes the dog to lean forward onto the forelegs. This might also just be a structural fault with little consequence to the dog. Many Bostons cannot tolerate excessive heat and also extremely cold weather, due to the shortened muzzle, so hot or cold weather combined with demanding exercise can bring harm to a Boston Terrier. A sensitive digestive system is also typical of the Boston Terrier. In the absence of proper diet, flatulence is associated with the breed.

Bostons, along with Pug, Shih Tzu and other short-snouted breeds are Brachycephalic breeds. The word comes from Greek roots “Brachy,” meaning short and “cephalic,” meaning head. This anatomy can cause tiny nostrils, long palates and a narrow trachea. Because of this, Bostons may be prone to snoring and reverse sneeze, a rapid and repeated forced inhalation through the nose, accompanied by snorting or gagging sounds used to clear the palate of mucus, but does not harm the dog in any way. Bostons are also prone to sensitive stomachs and intestinal gas.

The Scoop on Homemade Dry Dog Food-Benefits & Recipe: 101 Dog Care Tips- Tip 25

dog_foodWith recent pet food recalls many pet owners are opting to make their own dog food to gain peace of mind & save on cost. Contrary to popular belief gathering up last night dinner leftovers and throwing them in your dogs dish is not the same as making nutritional homemade dog food. Remember that not all human food is good for your dog to devour.

Although recycling your dinner leftovers sounds like a tempting, easy, quick & simple solution it can be hazardous to your dogs health. So for your pets safety & overall well-being here is a better solution for all you Suzy homemakers, health conscious pups & dog loving DIYer’s.  Into the kitchen we go! Making dry dog food from scratch is a simple process using fresh & healthy ingredients. With so many wonderful recipes to choose this is sure to please any finicky or fussy canine of all breeds, shapes & sizes. Making homemade dry dog food puts you in control over what your loyal companion consumes. You can feel good knowing you feed your dog preservative-free, nutritional food.

So what are the benefits of homemade dog food?

1. Prevent or reduce the risk of a number of health problems that result from eating potentially toxic or contaminated commercially prepared items. While providing your dog with essential nutrients & minerals for healthy life.

2. With the current state of the economy it can also be easier on your pockets & reduce overall cost of each meal. You can save big by buying whole grains & staples in bulk.

3. Feeding a dog freshly prepared food instead of commercial products filled with additives and preservatives may also give them more energy and reduce the risk of obesity.

4.  Homemade dog foods usually cause fewer allergic reactions than commercial dog foods. Easier to manage a dogs diet who have food allergies & sensitivities.

So, whats the scoop on homemade dog food ingredients?

1. Pet owners need to use fresh and natural ingredients, and ensure that every meal is nutritionally balanced. Your dogs diet should consist of protein & carbohydrates.

Protein ingredients include:
skinless roasted chicken breast , ground beef, lamb chop, Atlantic salmon,  hard boiled whole egg, cottage cheese & tofu

Carbohydrates ingredients include: long-grained brown or white rice, pasta, white potatoes, sweet potatoes,  oats, pearled barley, couscous, dry tapioca

2. Remember not all vegetables are good for your canine & their digestion. Choose asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale and zucchini. Cook vegetables with hard rinds prior to feeding. Select darker vegetables, because they are typically higher in nutritional value.

3. Process all vegetables before adding them into the dog food, as many are hard to digest. Use the puree setting on your blender to guarantee that the mixture is as smooth as possible.

4. Avoid meats that are more prone to carry parasites such as Trichinosis, as dogs are sensitive to contracting the disease from eating raw, unclean or ill-prepared meats. Cook all meats thoroughly and dice into small pieces before feeding them to your dog or adding them to a mixture.

5. Select lean protein sources such as chicken, tuna, venison, beef and small amounts of organ meats. Too much liver, for example, can cause bloating and diarrhea.

6. Eggs are a safe, strong source of lean protein. Add them to dog food mixtures or simply drop a well cooked, scrambled egg or two into the dog bowl as a treat. Don’t feed them to your dog raw or undercooked.

7. Follow the general proportion of 1 part lean protein to 2 parts vegetables when making dog food at home.

8. Because homemade dog food doesn’t have preservatives and additives, the pet owner will need to monitor the food regularly to make sure it does not spoil.

9.  If you are going to make your dogs food be sure to consult with your vet or nutritional pet expert for advice to help you develop a well-balanced, nutritionally complete diet for your dog to meet his or her specific needs.

What foods should your dog avoid?

There are several foods that are toxic to pets and can cause your dog to get deathly ill. Here are a few things you should avoid putting into your homemade dog food. Grapes, raisins, chocolate, artificial sweeteners, raw meat, onions, garlic and artificial fats should not be on your pets grocery list.
